Stefanuskerk

Stefanuskerk is a Gothic church located in Westerbork, Netherlands.

The church was built on the site of an earlier chapel dating back to the 12th century, which was named Capella de Burch in 1206 and later became an independent parish church.

The current church was built at the beginning of the 15th century as a successor to its wooden predecessor. The tower is older, with the lower part dating back to the 13th century, while the upper part was built in 1778. The church was consecrated to the martyr Saint Stephen, just like the mother church in Beilen.

The church has undergone several renovations throughout history. During the Protestant Reformation, it became a Lutheran church and lost its original name. However, since 2007, the church officially bears the name Stefanuskerk once again.

  • Pulpit: built in 1778;
  • Organ: built in 1726 by Christian Mller and Johann Michael Schwartsburg for the Sint-Martinuskerk of Beetgum.

The organ was relocated to Westerbork in 1862 when Petrus van Oeckelen built a new organ for that church.
