The Pnielkerk

The Pnielkerk, also known as the Reformed Church of Barneveld, was built in the late 19th century and consecrated in 1881. The church is named after the biblical figure Bezaleel, who according to tradition built the tabernacle in the wilderness.

The building was designed by architect Pierre Cuypers, a renowned Dutch architect known for his Gothic Revival style designs. The church features a striking tower that rises above the surrounding buildings, and its interior is characterized by a large, vaulted ceiling with ornate decorations.

  • Over the years, the Pnielkerk has undergone several renovations and expansions to accommodate growing congregations.
  • In 1952, a new organ was installed, and in the 1970s, the church underwent significant restoration work to repair damage caused by World War II bombing raids.
  • The restoration work involved repairing cracks in the walls and replacing damaged stained glass windows.

Today, the Pnielkerk is an important cultural landmark in Barneveld, hosting various events, concerts, and community activities throughout the year. Visitors can admire its stunning architecture and peaceful atmosphere while exploring the surrounding neighborhood.
