History

The church was originally built around 1440 on the location where a small church had stood since approximately 1000 AD.

The construction of the church was initiated by Willem II van der Leck, Heer van den Bergh. Around 1600, the church passed from Catholic to Protestant hands.

  3. During World War II, the church suffered significant damage from artillery fire, but it was restored after the war.

  • The tower is crowned with an ogival spire.

On the eastern side, the church has a 5/8 closed choir.

On the southern façade, there is a portal added to the building.

In 1950, a consistory chamber was added to the church, built from the stones of the heavily damaged Sint-Eusebiuskerk in Arnhem.

Furniture

  • An oak pulpit was constructed in 1628.

The Maartenskerk has been designated as a national monument since 1967.
