The Sint-Agathakerk
The Sint-Agathakerk is a Roman Catholic church located in Harreveld, Netherlands. The church was built in 1867 and consecrated in 1868, with Agatha of Sicily chosen as the patron saint.
The land for the church was made available by Bernard W.J. von Raesfelt, then owner of Huize Harreveld.
As there was no parsonage built near the church, it was served from Zieuwent. However, after the construction of a new parsonage in 1894, Harreveld received its own pastor in 1895.
The parish boundary had been established years earlier, with the area being separated from Zieuvent.
In 1888, a storm struck the church tower, causing lightning to strike it and subsequently burning down the structure. The tower was rebuilt according to the design of Gerhard te Riele.
The Sint-Agathakerk is a national monument, recognized for its historical significance due to some older architectural elements and wall paintings that date back to an earlier era.
