About the Church Building

De Sint-Jozefkerk is a neo-Gothic church located at the Buitensingel in Delfzijl. The Catholic church building, designed by Clemens Hardeman, dates back to 1924 and is therefore one of the last examples of neo-Gothicism in the Netherlands.

The first Catholic church of Delfzijl, a simple hall-like structure that was built between 1817-1818, would be destroyed in 1945.

  1. The church from 1924 is a three-aisled cruciform church where the side facades are flanked by buttresses.
  2. In front stands an outbuilt tower, consisting of four stories with a pointed spire.
  3. Noteworthy is the five-sided stair turret at the right-hand side of the tower.

The Parsonage

Next to the church stands the relatively spacious parsonage, which is protected as a national monument in its own right.
