This remarkable individual was born Alphonse Marie Louise de Jesus de Laet on January 2, 1873, and spent most of her life in French-speaking Belgium. Initially, she was known as Jeanne-Marie Dejosez, but took the name Theresa after entering the Discalced Carmelite Order.

Saint Theresa's spiritual journey began when she was a young girl, influenced by her Catholic upbringing and strong sense of faith. At the age of 15, she entered the Carmelite Convent in Anchourt, where she adopted the habit and name Sister Therese of Jesus.

  • Her devotion to prayer, charity, and self-denial became exemplary, earning her the respect and admiration of her fellow sisters.

Throughout her life, Saint Theresa remained humble, simple, and dedicated to God's service. She spent countless hours praying before the Blessed Sacrament, engaging in charitable work, and performing menial tasks with love and enthusiasm.

In 1897, Saint Theresa joined the Carmelite Order, taking a vow of poverty, chastity, and obedience. She spent several years serving as a choir sister, fulfilling various roles within the convent, including that of novice mistress.

  1. Her exceptional leadership skills earned her recognition from her superiors, who eventually appointed her superior general of the Carmelite Order.

Saint Theresa's spiritual growth was marked by numerous mystical experiences, during which she received visions and messages from God. These events, though not always easy to understand or accept, strengthened her faith and deepened her love for Christ.

  • Her devotion to the Child Jesus, particularly, became a hallmark of her spirituality, inspiring countless others to follow in her footsteps.

Sadly, Saint Theresa's life was cut short when she died on September 30, 1897, at the age of just 24. Despite her young age and untimely passing, her legacy lived on through the numerous miracles attributed to her intercession.
