Sint-Petrus'-Bandenkerk

Sint-Petrus'-Bandenkerk is a late-Gothic cruciform basilica with an integrated tower that was rebuilt after a lightning strike-induced fire in 1699 and completed in 1714. The tower features a bulbous dome known as the "Lindse Blaos" visible from afar, restored in 1884, 1905, and 2001.

The tower has four bells replaced after being looted by the occupier during World War II. The tower is supported by four corner piers, one of which serves as a stairway tower and topped with a separate spire.

The tower's facade is adorned with latticework dividing the panels into sparse fields, closed off by natural stone triple-arch friezes.

The church's west entrance was renovated in 1905 to neo-Gothic style. Although the church likely finished construction around 1474, its chancel dates back to approximately 1400.

The nave is an example of Maas Gothic architecture, characterized by columns with Maaskapitels, flat against the shaft, and cross-rib vaults divided by ribbing. Maaskapitels are rare in North Brabant but more common in Limburg.

  • A stone baptismal font from around 1500
  • A 17th-century pulpit
  • A 15th-century triumphal cross with Mother of Sorrows
  • A 16th-century sculpture of Saint Catherine and Saint Barbara
  • A mid-18th-century sculpture of Saint Anne
  1. Carl Weber and Pierre Cuypers worked on various renovations, such as raising the chancel and relocating the entrance.
  2. Architect Cees Geenen designed the side chapels built in 1939-1940.

The church also houses a completely restored organ from 1860 by Mechelen organ builder F.B. Loret, who lived from 1808 to 1877.

The church was used for Protestant worship from 1648 to 1798, as there were few Reformed parishioners in Leende. As a result, local council meetings were held within the church walls.
