The Sint-Rosakapel

The Sint-Rosakapel is a Roman Catholic chapel located in the city of Sittard, Netherlands.

The chapel was built in 1675 and serves as a place of worship for the local community.

It is dedicated to Rosa van Lima, who is credited with saving Sittard from the black plague in 1668, the year of her canonization. Since 1669, she has been the patron saint of Sittard, and in 1671, she was declared a saint.

The chapel stands at the highest point of Sittard, approximately 100 meters above sea level, on a hill called Kollenberg.

It is situated at an intersection where four roads meet: Kapellerweg, Kollenberg, Duustergats, and Eeckerweg. The chapel itself is built on top of this hill.

The Sint-Rosakapel is a rijksmonument, which means it is a national monument in the Netherlands.

  • The chapel has seven footfalls
  • An imitation grot, known as the Hof van Olijven, located around the chapel

Additionally, there is another chapel called the Onze-Lieve-Vrouw-van-Smartenkapel situated approximately 230 meters to the southeast of the Sint-Rosakapel.
