The Heilig Hart van Jezuskerk
The "Heilig Hart van Jezuskerk" is located at Pastoor van Breugelstraat 51, 4744 AB Bosschenhoofd, Netherlands, within the municipality of Halderberge, province of North Brabant.
This Catholic church was established in 1882 with a school and parish, followed by the construction of the church in 1886, consecrated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The architect was Jan Jurien van Langelaar, and Bouwpastoor Johannes van Breugel, after whom the street is named.
The original church was built for a cost of 21,000 guilders. As the parish grew, a new, larger church was constructed in 1927 by architect Wolter te Riele, at the expense of Andreas Smits, the third pastor. This church suffered damage during World War II in 1944 but was restored in 1946 by Jacques Hurks, who added a new façade and tower in traditionalist style.
The church underwent restoration again in 2008. It is a simple brick building with a square bell tower of four floors on the north facade. Since 1939, there has been devotion to Saint Clemens Maria Hofbauer, a Redemptorist. In 1952, a Clemens chapel was added to the church, which became a daily chapel in 1972.
Today, this chapel houses a sculpture of the saint, created by Piet Verdonk in 1958.
