Sint-Petruskerk (St. Peter's Church)
Sint-Petruskerk is a beautiful Catholic church located in the heart of Eindhoven, Netherlands. The current church building dates back to the 16th century and features a mix of Gothic and Renaissance architectural styles. The tower, which stands at 77 meters tall, was added in the 17th century.
The church was first mentioned in written records in 1350, but it's believed that a chapel existed on the site as early as the 12th century. The interior of the church is adorned with beautiful stained-glass windows, frescoes, and sculptures. The high altar is particularly notable for its intricate carvings and ornate decorations.
Sint-Petruskerk has played an important role in Eindhoven's cultural and religious life for centuries. It has been the site of numerous concerts, exhibitions, and community events over the years. In 2012, the church underwent a major restoration project to repair damage caused by years of wear and tear. The renovation helped to preserve the building's original architecture and charm.
The Sint-Petruskerk is a neogotische kruisbasiliek which was built after the demolition of the old St. Peter's Church in 1815. It was consecrated in 1880 and designed by architect H.J. van Tulder. During its construction, the tower collapsed in 1875. A new tower was finally built in 1912 by architect L.P.J. Kooken.
The church is a rijksmonument and belongs to the highest churches in the Netherlands with a height of 76 meters. Approximately 50 meters north lies the Heilig-Hartkapel. Less than one kilometer east stands the Oude Toren van Woensel, which is the remaining tower of the local medieval church in Kempense gotiek, also dedicated to St. Peter.
