The Sint-Martinuskerk

The Sint-Martinuskerk is located on Jan Deckersstraat 22, 5591 HS Heeze, Netherlands.

The church was built in the 19th century and is dedicated to Saint Martin. It has a Gothic Revival style architecture with a distinctive bell tower.

The church was built in 1933 and replaced an earlier waterstaatskerk from 1833. The architect was Hendrik Willem Valk.

2. Additionally, there was experimentation with modern developments for that time.

Notable features:

• The altar is placed under the four-way tower and the middle aisle is wide, making the building conform to the concept of the christocentric church where the altar stands at the center and is easily visible to the faithful.
• The glass-in-lead windows from 1873 depict the twelve apostles. The crucifixion stations are from 1894.

History:

• All this is, including the confessionals, originating from the old waterstaatskerk.
• A chapel dedicated to Saint Job is also present in the church. A 16th-century Job image from the old chapel in Ven was stolen from the church in 1976 and replaced with a new image in 1977.

Artwork:

• The wall paintings in this chapel are by the Bossche sculptor Van der Heijden (1953).
• Further images include Sint-Anna-te-Drieën from the 15th to 16th centuries, a Piëta from the 16th century, an image of John the Baptist from around 1800, and many statues from the 19th century.
