Heilige Naam Jezuskerk

Location: Offermansstraat 3 in Lierop, Netherlands.

The church's full name translates to "Kerk van de Heilige Naam Jezus" or Church of the Holy Name of Jesus. Previously, Lierop had a Gothic-style church building from 1569 that was demolished in 1898 after a new church was put into use.

As early as 1155, mention was made of a church building in Lierop: the Sint-Salvatorkerk.

  • The current church was built in 1892 according to an design by Carl Weber, a German architect residing in Roermond.
  • The church features four towers and a large, octagonal cupola above the nave.
  • The two towers on the north side are 40 meters high, while the two towers on the south side are 32 meters tall. Originally, the two southern towers were higher than the two northern ones.

The interior is covered by a round vault and then an octagonal vault. The octagonal vault reaches a height of 42.4 meters. At the front of the church stands a model.

  • The church also possesses Stations of the Cross, a stone baptismal font with a copper lid, and beechwood benches.

The church is considered the pinnacle of Carl Weber's second period. It has been placed on the national monuments list, while the adjacent parsonage is listed as a municipal monument.

  1. The church is equipped with an organ featuring an important part of pipework by B.P. van Hirtum from Hilverenbeek, crafted in 1856.
  2. Orgelbouwer Verschueren from Heythuysen, Netherlands, restored and relocated the instrument around 1970.
