The Augustinuskerk (Augustine Church)

The Augustinuskerk is a beautiful Catholic church located in the heart of Amsterdam, Netherlands. The church was built in the 15th century and has undergone several renovations and expansions over the years.

The Augustine Order, a community of monks, founded the church in 1416. The original church was constructed around 1420, but it was later demolished due to poor structural conditions. A new church was built on the same site between 1512 and 1523, designed by architect Hendrick de Keyser.

In the 17th century, the church underwent significant changes, including the addition of a tower and the renovation of its interior. The church has been damaged during various wars and conflicts throughout its history. During World War II, the Nazis bombed the church in 1944, causing significant damage.
