The Immanuelkerk

The Immanuelkerk was built in the 19th century as a Reformed church for the growing Protestant population in the Overtoomse Veld neighborhood of Amsterdam.

  • Architect: Pierre Cuypers
  • Construction period: between 1887 and 1892

The church features a striking Gothic Revival-style architecture, with a large tower rising above the entrance.

  1. The building has a rectangular floor plan with a nave, two side aisles, and an apse at the east end.
  2. The exterior is characterized by pointed arches, ribbed vaults, and intricate stone carvings.

One of the notable features of the Immanuelkerk is its stunning stained-glass windows, designed by artist Jan Toorop in collaboration with architect Cuypers.

  • Windows: depict biblical scenes and allegorical figures, adding to the church's visual appeal
