The Vrijburg Church
The Vrijburg Church was built in the 13th century and has undergone several renovations over the years. The church got its name "Vrijburg" because it was situated outside the city walls of Amsterdam.
The church is an example of Gothic architecture, with a rectangular shape and a high tower that dates back to the 15th century. The exterior of the building is quite plain, but inside, you'll find beautiful wooden pews and a striking organ from the 18th century.
Some notable features of the Vrijburg Church include:
- A beautiful stained-glass window above the main entrance
- An ornate pulpit from the 17th century
- A small crypt that dates back to the Middle Ages
The church is still an active place of worship and hosts various services, including Sunday morning services and midweek prayer meetings. The church is open to visitors on Sundays, when you can attend a service or take a guided tour. The church is also available for weddings, baptisms, and other private events.
