The Goede Herderkerk
The Goede Herderkerk is a Reformed Protestant church located at Piersonlaan 2 in Huizen, Netherlands. The congregation was founded in 1962 and initially worshiped in a makeshift building until the current church building was completed in 1968. At that time, Huizen was experiencing rapid growth as a hub of the Randstad region.
The church is part of the federation Samen op Weg gemeente Huizen, which also includes the Kruiskerk and Oosterlichtkerk. Since February 2008, this federation has merged with the Gereformeerde Kerk Huizen to form Protestantse Gemeente Huizen (PKN Huizen).
The modern church building is notable for its cast iron pulpit, which features the text from Psalm 23:1-4 ("The Lord is my Shepherd"). The church's architectural design also includes a large, meter-high glass-in-lood window that provides an abstract representation of the same verse. These two prominent features are thematically linked to the name of the church community.
The pastors who have served the Goede Herderkerk include:
- Ben Elenga (1988-1994)
- Rob Doesburg (1995-2014)
- Geertje de Vries (January 18, 2015-present)
