Carnisse Church

History of Carnisselande

• The construction of this Vinex neighborhood began in 1997, simultaneously with Portland and Vaanpark.
• The area receives great appreciation for its vast variety in architecture and urban planning.

A notable landmark is the Jan Gerritse Heuvel, also known as Gaatkensbult, which serves as an observation point to the south of this neighborhood.

1. This viewpoint offers a view stretching to the skyline of Rotterdam and the Botlek area, as well as to the south over the Oude Maas river and the Hoeksche Waard.
2. Part of the hill is made up of land that remained after the construction of nearby Gaatkens Plas.

Notable Events

• Gaaktens Plas gained national attention in July 2006 due to massive fish mortality.
• Since October 25, 2004, RET line 25 has been operating from Schiebroek in Rotterdam-Noord to the new shopping center Carnisse Veste.
• On January 6, 2025, line 25 was renumbered to Line 5.
