Sint-Martinuskerk
Pastoor Smitsstraat 42, 5491 XP Sint-Oedenrode, Netherlands
Sint-Martinuskerk
Location: Sint-Oedenrode, Netherlands
The church sits on Pastoor Smitsstraat, a street in the heart of Sint-Oedenrode.
- The Sint-Martinuskerk replaced an identical church from 1808, which previously superseded the medieval Sint-Odakerk and was demolished in 1912.
- Remaining from the Sint-Odakerk is the high choir from 1498, now a chapel to the right of the choir, designated as a national monument.
- The current church was designed in neo-Gothic style by architect W.Th. van Aalst.
- The church is not strictly oriented unlike the Sint-Oda then, resulting in the old choir standing at an angle under the church.
- The church was completed in its present form in 1915.
Plans for a large tower were not implemented; instead, the church received a small tower. Behind the church stands since 1934 a chapel designed by Marinus Jan Granpré Molière, dedicated to Saint Oda. The name Sint-Oedenrode is linked to this saint.
