History
The Sint-Bavokerk church located at Leidseweg 6 in Oud Ade (municipality of Kaag en Braassem), in the Dutch province of South Holland. The church was built on the site of a previous church from 1845 by Theo Molkenboer, which had already become dilapidated after just two decades.
- Architect: Herman Jan van den Brink designed a single-aisled church in neoroman style with a half-built tower above the entrance.
- Date of consecration: September 9, 1869.
The Sint-Bavokerk is one of the few churches by Van den Brink that still exist. Both the exterior and interior have largely been preserved in their original state.
Current Status
The church has been used as a Roman Catholic church to this day. Initially, there was an independent parish "Sint-Bavo", but since 2011, the church in Oud Ade has been one of the "parish cores" of the parish H. Franciscus and falls under the "parish federation" Clara & Franciscus, with its center at the Adrianuskerk in Langeraar.
In 2016, a major renovation project of the Sint-Bavokerk began. As financial support, the local community organized a festival week that year, from which the proceeds went towards the church's renovation.
Protected Monument
In 1881, a parsonage was built next to the church. The church and parsonage have been protected as a national monument since 1991.
