De St. Catharinakerk of Grote Kerk is a Gothic church located at the Markt in Zevenbergen in North Brabant.

The oldest parts date back to the 14th century.

  1. The church consists of a three-aisled hall, a cross-ribbed vaulted ceiling, a rectangular choir, and on the west side of the north cross-arm is the Joris-kapel.
  2. The hall dates from around 1400 when the choir was also raised.
  3. The church received its current form after a significant renovation in the years 1541-1546.
  4. The tower got its new wooden roof topping in 1766, designed by Philip Willem Schonck.

The Flentrop organ was built in 1954-1955 by D.A. Flentrop at Zaandam and has three manuals and a free pedal.

There are 19 tombstones located within the church.

  1. There is an effigy of Jan van Ligne, Count of Arenberg, Lord of Zevenbergen. He died in the Battle of Heiligerlee (1568) while fighting for Philip II of Spain.
  2. His mortal remains were reburied in the family grave at the cloister church of Edingen in Hainaut in 1614.

The St. Catharinakerk is the only monumental building that survived the destructions in Zevenbergen caused by war actions in 1940 and 1944.

Although there was severe wartime damage to the church, which was repaired between 1949 and 1953.

The tower was on the verge of being blown up just before liberation but was rebuilt entirely to its original appearance in 1961.
